Two ESRs from UAB, namely Doga Bilican and Evangelia Dislaki, attended the “Meet the fellows 2016” which was held on 22 April 2016 at “La Corrala”, Madrid, Spain. This outreach event was intended to disseminate information about research projects to a non-scientific audience. Students from high school and college, as well as general public, had the opportunity to interact with the ESRs and learn how they perform the experiments in the laboratory. The two SELECTA fellows prepared a presentation to introduce themselves, their host institution and their scientific project within the framework of the SELECTA network. The presentation also included a short video to show the fundamentals of the electrodeposition process (see below). Finally, they answered questions from the audience concerning their research work and they shared experiences with other MSCA fellows.
The VU (Vilnius University) team presented their latest research results in the framework of the SELECTA project at the Chemistry & Chemical Technology 2016 | INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE OF LITHUANIAN SOCIETY OF CHEMISTRY, which was held on 28-29 April 2016, at the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences, Vilnius, Lithuania. The goal of the conference was to gather together scientists to discuss different topics in modern electrochemical, chemical and technological research. Prof. Henrikas Cesiulis gave a lecture about “Electrodeposition of Co-W alloys from macro- to nano- scale”. In turn, the SELECTA ESR, Aliona Nicolenco, presented a poster entitled: “New electrolyite for Fe-W alloys electrodeposition”. See below the abstracts of the VU team presentations.
The SELECTA Workshop entitled: “Training on research methodologies, characterization techniques and reporting scientific results” was held on 6-10 March 2016 at IFW (Leibniz Institute for Solid State and Materials Research), Dresden, Germany. During the Workshop the ESRs (Early Stage Researchers) presented their project progress and their future plans in talks of 20 min duration. They also attended training lectures on the following scientific topics: (i) structural characterization of materials: diffraction/imaging techniques, (ii) mechanical behavior of electrodeposited films and micro/nanostructures, (iii) corrosion and wear resistance of electrodeposited metallic coatings, (iv) tribocorrosion and (v) nanomagnetism and spintronic devices. Besides, training on how to deliver “effective oral presentations” was also provided to the ESRs. The knowledge acquired by the ESRs was evaluated at the end of the meeting. The successful completion of the Workshop was awarded with 2 credits as “mandatory training” and 1 credit as “training is soft skills”. In turn, the senior researchers discussed several important aspects concerning the management of the network: (i) secondments implementation, (ii) dissemination of the project, (iii) consortium management, (iv) financial distribution and (iv) scientific projects.
The second SELECTA Workshop entitled “Training on research methodologies, characterization techniques and reporting scientific results” will be held on 6-10 March 2016 at IFW (Leibniz Institute for Solid State and Materials Research), Dresden. The 15 ESRs of the network will present their project progress and they will attend to several lectures, as part of their compulsory training. The main scientific topics of the seminars will be: (i) structural characterization: diffraction/imaging techniques, (ii) Mechanical behavior of electrodeposited films and micro/nanostructures, (iii) Corrosion and wear resistance of electrodeposited metallic coatings, (iv) Tribocorrosion and (v) Nanomagnetism and spintronic devices. In addition training on “effective oral presentations” will also be provided to the ESRs, as part of their compulsory training in soft skills. Please, find attached information regarding registration, fees, hotel booking and the agenda of the event.
The SELECTA Workshop entitled “Fundamentals of electrodeposition of metallic alloys: state-of-the-art at European and International levels” was held on 3-7 November 2015 at “Solaris Resort”, in Vrnjacka Banja, Serbia. The recruited ESRs (Early Stage Researchers) and the senior researchers from the partner institutions attended the event. After the welcome presentations, the ESRs introduced themselves, their scientific background and their project. The senior researchers also briefly presented their institutions and their role within the SELECTA network. The main goal of the Workshop was to train the ESRs in the following scientific topics: (i) basic electrodeposition methods for the growth of sustainable amorphous and nanocrystalline alloys, (ii) electrochemical synthesis of porous alloys for environmental applications and (iii) training in metrology, calibration and standards. Additionally, training in soft skills was also provided to the ESRs. At the end of the Workshop the knowledge acquired by the ESRs was evaluated.
The first SELECTA Workshop entitled “Fundamentals of electrodeposition of metallic alloys: state-of-the-art at European and International levels” will be held on 3-7 November 2015 at “Solaris Resort” (http://www.solarisresort.com/En/index-En.html) in Vrnjacka Banja, Serbia. The 15 early-stage researchers (ESR PhD students) of the SELECTA network will take this opportunity to introduce themselves, present their projects and explain their role in SELECTA. The ERS fellows will assist to several seminars given by senior researchers, as part of their compulsory training through SELECTA. The main scientific topics of the seminars will be: (i) basic Electrodeposition methods for the growth of sustainable amorphous and nanocrystalline alloys, (ii) electrochemical synthesis of porous alloys for environmental applications and (iii) Training in Metrology, Calibration and Standards.
Some members of SELECTA will participate in the forthcoming E-MRS Spring Meeting 2015.
Dr. L. Philippe (EMPA) and Dr. Pellicer (UAB) are co-organizers of symposium FF entitled “Electrochemical processes for nanomaterials and their properties” of E-MRS Spring Meeting 2015 that will be held next 11-15 May in Lille (France). Prof. Sort (UAB) and Dr. Gebert (IFW) belong to the scientific committee. Dr. Pané (ETHZ) will deliver an invited talk at this symposium.
The kick-off Meeting of SELECTA will be held on 5-6 March 2015 at "Campus Hotel" in Bellaterra. Representatives of both Beneficiary and Associated Partners will attend the event.
Welcome remarks will be given by the Chancellor and the Vice-Chancellor of UAB. Several aspects of the Network including management, recruitment and dissemination, and training, among others will be tackled.
Prof. Jordi Sort has been awarded ERC Consolidator Grant from the European Research Council. His project entitled "Merging Nanoporous Materials with Energy-Efficient Spintronics (SPIN-PORICS)" aims to integrate engineered nanoporous materials into novel spintronic applications. This Project tackles the development of a new type of nanocomposite material, comprising an electrically conducting or semiconducting nanoporous layer filled with a suitable dielectric material, where the magnetic properties of the metal/semiconductor will be largely tuned at room temperature by simply applying a voltage, via electric charge accumulation. The obtained results are likely to open new paradigms in the field of spintronics and will be of high economic transcendence.
