Synthesis of sustainable nanocrystalline and amorphous metallic alloys, using novel electrochemical approaches, from both aqueous and non-aqueous solvents (whenever possible, using non-hazardous electrolytes), whose surface morphology will be tailored from ultra-smooth dense to nanoporous to meet specific technological demands.
The following TYPES OF MATERIALS (Fe-, Cu- or Al-based) will be developed (Work Package 3):
Type 1. Fully-dense coatings with ultra-high wear and corrosion resistance, free from hard Cr and Cd, and with minimum amounts of cobalt and nickel.
Type 2. Fully-dense magnetic alloys grown using a sustainable approach.
Type 3. Sustainable nanoporous coatings and foams (not containing noble metals), with tunable pore size and connectivity:
