Summer School organized by UOI
The next event of the SELECTA network will be the Summer School entitled “Gateway to Academics: Materials modeling for target applications”. This meeting will be organized by UOI (University of Ioannina) and it will take place on 3rd – 7th September in Ioannina, Greece. Scientific and practical training will be provided to the SELECTA ESRs. The training in soft skills will be delivered by YR (Yellow Research). In addition, the ESRs will present the progress of their projects in a poster session and they will have the opportunity to get feedback from the senior members of the network. The Armourers and Brasiers’ Cambridge Forum
On 14th June 2016, several members of the SELECTA network participated at the “Armourers and Brasiers’ Cambridge Forum”. Prof. Jordi Sort from UAB (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona) delivered an invited lecture entitled “Nanoporous materials for magnetism and spintronics applications”. Prof. Lindsay Greer from University of Cambridge was the chair of the session. Besides, the ESRs from University of Cambridge, Wilhelm Hüttenes, Samer Kurdi and Sundararajan Thirumalai, presented a poster with their latest research results. The event, which was held in the Pippard Lecture Theatre at the Cavendish Laboratory on the University of Cambridge's West Cambridge Site,is a one-day international conference held annually at the University of Cambridge. The programme is devised by the universityDepartment of Materials Science and Metallurgywhich has strong links with the Armourers and Brasiers' Company and it brings together leading Materials Scientists from universities and industry.
Meet the fellows 2016
Two ESRs from UAB, namely Doga Bilican and Evangelia Dislaki, attended the “Meet the fellows 2016” which was held on 22 April 2016 at “La Corrala”, Madrid, Spain. This outreach event was intended to disseminate information about research projects to a non-scientific audience. Students from high school and college, as well as general public, had the opportunity to interact with the ESRs and learn how they perform the experiments in the laboratory. The two SELECTA fellows prepared a presentation to introduce themselves, their host institution and their scientific project within the framework of the SELECTA network. The presentation also included a short video to show the fundamentals of the electrodeposition process (see below). Finally, they answered questions from the audience concerning their research work and they shared experiences with other MSCA fellows.
